MLB Playoffs: Day 2

Wild day with all four division series in action:

1.  In Detroit, the A's and Tigers played a classic game.  Down the stretch, the A's had gotten great pitching from their relief corps, and Oakland had to feel good about its chances after taking a 4-3 lead into the bottom of the 8th.  But the Tigers scored one in the 8th and another in the 9th to beat Oakland 5-4.  The A's will have to sweep three games in Oakland to survive.

2.  In St. Louis, the Cardinals had a 2-1 lead going into the 8th, but the scrappy Nats pushed across two runs in the top of the inning and held on for a 3-2 victory.

3.  In Baltimore, the Yankees wore down Oriole pitching for 8 innings, and the blew open a 2-2 game with a five-run 9th.  C.C. Sabathia went almost all the way for the 7-2 victory.

4.  In San Francisco, the offensively challenged Giants were totally dominated by Bronson Arroyo of the Reds.  The Giants lost 9-0 in a game where they only had two hits.  San Francisco has to win three games in Cincinnati to make the NLCS.

So here's where we stand:

NATIONAL LEAGUE DIVISION SERIES (Best of 5):
Washington leads St. Louis 1-0
Cincinnati leads San Francisco 2-0

AMERICAN LEAGUE DIVISION SERIES (Best of 5):
New York leads Baltimore 1-0
Detroit leads Oakland 2-0
