MLB Playoffs: Day 17

Well, that was one of the most boring seven-game series ever played.  Look at these scores:

St. Louis 6, San Francisco 4
San Francisco 7, St. Louis 1
St. Louis 3, San Francisco 1
St. Louis 8, San Francisco 3
San Francisco 5, St. Louis 0
San Francisco 6, St. Louis 1
San Francisco 9, St. Louis 0

In five of the seven games, the losing team was either shut out or scored only a single run.  In five of the seven games -- including the last four -- the winning margin was at least five runs.  In the last three games, the Giants outscored the Cardinals 20-1, and none of those games was competitive.  Finally, the last game was played at the same time as the final presidential debate in an extremely close election.

So on the whole, I don't think too many people -- except for Cardinal and Giant fans -- will be remembering this series.  But the Giants, who have now survived six elimination games against the Reds and Cards, won't care.  They are the National League Champions for the second time in three years.

NATIONAL LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIP SERIES (Best of 7):
San Francisco beat St. Louis 4-3

AMERICAN LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIP SERIES (Best of 7):
Detroit beat New York 4-0
