Interesting Data on Kentucky Basketball

Ken Pomeroy reports today that there are 37 players from Kentucky in D-1 basketball who have played at least 10 percent of their team's minutes this year. That works out to 8.5 D-1 basketball players per million people in Kentucky, which means that the Commonwealth ranks 25th in the country in that category -- somewhere between Ohio and Missouri. That's better than I would have expected, although Kentucky still ranks below every other Southern state when it comes to producing D-1 players. The Commonwealth is also well below Indiana, which produces 13.4 D-1 players per million Hoosiers -- the sixth-best figure in America.

Ken Pomeroy has also figured out who he considers to be the best player from each of the 50 states. The Cats have two of these: Anthony Davis is the best player in D-1 basketball from Illinois, and our own Darius Miller is the best player from Kentucky. He also reports that Isaiah Canaan of Murray State is the best D-1 player from Mississippi.

  1. This is a very interesting report. I would love to see the same thing about football.
