NBA Update

According to legend, when Thor was in the land of the giants, he was challenged to a wrestling match against an old woman. The mighty Thor assumed this would be no problem at all, but he found that no matter how hard he tried, he could not move the old woman even an inch. Eventually, she grabbed him and forced him down to one knee.

Thor was humiliated, but after the wrestling match the giants explained that he was the greatest fighter they had ever seen. Thor said, "But I could not even defeat that old woman." "That's true," said the giants, "but no one can defeat her. She is Old Age."

That's pretty much the story of what happened to the San Antonio Spurs last night. Tim Duncan, Manu Ginobli, and Tony Parker are great champions, but they are not what they used to be. Throughout the series, the Grizzlies were quicker and stronger than the Spurs, and last night they finished them off. The Spurs trailed throughout the game, but fought back to lead 80-79 with only about four minutes to go. Down the stretch, however, the Grizz outscored the Spurs 20-11, and they won 99-91.

So here are the match-ups for the second round. Teams with a chance to win the title are in bold:

EAST:
Bulls v. Hawks
Heat v. Celtics

WEST:
Thunder v. Grizzlies
Lakers v. Mavericks

Again, I will probably skip the first four games of each series, even though at least some of the games between Boston and Miami will be worth watching.
