Album Review: Belong by The Pains of Being Pure at Heart

BelongAre you a fan of the 90's alternative rock scene.  These guys certainly are and have even gone so far as to bring in producers and production people who worked with bands like Smashing Pumpkins back in the 90's to try and capture that sound.

What they have come up with is a solid pop album that is bathed in the 90's alternative sound.  But it goes beyond just the 90's.  Because to me these guys have gone further back to bands like Joy Division and tapped into their idea of crafting complex, yet simple pop songs that bring out the emotion of the song.  While we are in the midst of a post-punk revival it makes sense to start to see bands that are tapping into both that early 80's sound and the early 90's sound and blend them together.

I think these guys pull all of this off quite well and enjoyed this album.  This album would be a great soundtrack for an outing with friends to an amusement park.

Following the Rhapsody rating method I give it 3 out of 5 stars for Pretty Good.
