One of the questions raised in the discussion was how much impact do these one and done players have in the NBA from KY, Duke, etc. Here is some information I gathered in doing a quick look at NBA top performers starting in 2012.  Not sure why I picked 2012 just figured this would have given Calipari's first class time to get into the NBA.  I focused on the statistic Value Over Replacement at Basketball Reference.

Since 2012 KY has had four players who made the top 20 in this category.

Duke has had one player
Kyrie Irving in 2015 (18), 2018 (16), and 2019 (13)

Surprisingly the best represented college was no college.  Here are the players who have been in the top 20 since 2012 that didn't attend a college.

Marc Gasol
Pau Gasol
Nicolas Batum
Goran Dragic
Dirk Nowitzki
Rudy Gobert
Giannis Antetokounmpo
Nikola Jokic
Luka Doncic
LeBron James
Kobe Bryant
Tyson Chandler
Dwight Howard
Josh Smith

Kentucky is the best represented college at four players.  There are a two that have 3 players: Florida and UCLA.

More than half the players who have made this top 20 list since 2012 were taken in the top 10 of the draft.  The average years a player was in the NBA making the list 7.

  2. Is this opening MIDI that one gorgeous Cranberries hit? Oh, that's just going to make me sad all day thinking of that song.

  3. I agree with me in the podcast about ranking these players by minutes per game times team winning percentage.

  5. And now we reach the inevitable point in the episode where my energy level really drops off and I monopolize the mike by speaking about a word per two seconds. It's just brutal.

  6. My teams went 5-3 in the four-on-four, half-court games at the church last night. For the first time in my basketball career, I finally got myself to break to the basket after throwing a pass and get myself ready to receive the ball back for a layup. Also, I asked and learned a little bit about when it's a good time and when it's not such a good time to set a pick. So all of that was great. On the down side, the opposing team won the last game when I backed off a known deadly three-point shooter to overplay for his left-hand drive. (He usually just blows by me.) Anyway, he ripped the three, and we were done for the night.
