Oh, Kentucky

Adoption and foster care are near and dear to Gov. Bevin, and now he has appointed a former senior vice president with Southern Baptist Theological Seminary to rethink the state's approach to connecting children in need with "their forever families."

Good jobs news from Ashland.

Kentucky No. 37 in that U.S. News & World Report ranking of high schools from last week was Marshall County High, and Mary Garrison Minyard has an interesting story in the Marshall County Daily about the local superintendent's takes on testing, personalized learning, college/career readiness, etc.

The Jesse Stuart Lodge is set to re-open grandly at Greenbo Lake State Resort Park.

Kentucky has drinking-water issues, and there's something up with the silver carp in Kentucky Lake and Lake Barkley.

Also in sports, Coach Cal reportedly offered a grant-in-aid to the 7-foot-1 son of former Washington Bullet Manute Bol.

Rest in peace, Mr. McCarley, star of the 28-3 1953 Auburn High Tigers, member of Coach John Oldham's 1956 Ohio Valley Conference co-champions at Tennessee Tech and Logan County farm-implement dealer.
