Album Review: Holly by Nick Waterhouse

This album has a great album cover but it does trick you. I was thinking it would be some 70's inspired rock album but instead it is more influenced from 60's R&B and 50's rockabilly.

In some ways albums like this feel very unproduced. Like they took the band, put them in a room with microphones and turned on the recorder. But to get a band to sound this natural and alive it actually takes some smart production work and they captured the energy and sound of the band perfectly on this album.

If you are looking for something fun and energetic to put on while you clean the house or have a fun dance party with your kids, this is a good choice.

Following the Rhapsody rating method I give it 2 out of 5 stars for Not Bad.

  1. Nick Waterhouse kept turning up in a hipster car commercial that ran all through the NCAA Tournament. I have no idea what kind of car it was, but all these beautiful folks in their late 20's were riding along in it and being huge Nick Waterhouse fans together.

  2. I just looked at this review again for the first time since April and I immediately thought to myself upon seeing the album cover, "Hmmm, I wonder if they sound like Percy Faith?"
