Album Review: The Carpenter by The Avett Brothers

I like the Avett Brothers and recently when I was picking new albums to throw on my MP3 player for listening I purposely picked this one because I know I tend to like these guys.  Problem is I like them when I listen to them, but never find myself seeking them out any other time.

I don't know that this album will change that for me, but I have to say I really did enjoy this album.  It has solid hooks and smart lyrics throughout.  I could easily see it becoming a go to album for the rest of the year, but we'll see how that plays out.  The music and sound is perfect for the fall transition in weather and who knows by the time it gets cold I may have lost complete interest.

Still no matter as it stands right now this may be my favorite album of the year.  There isn't a bad track on it and I find myself looking forward to hearing it.  I threw it on yesterday while cleaning the house with the windows open letting in cool air and found it to be a perfect fit for the occasion.  If you've been reading my reviews you'll know I like albums I can clean the house to.

If you like Wilco's Being There then I think you'll like this. Following the Rhapsody rating method I give it 3 out of 5 stars for Pretty Good.

  1. Meanwhile, we had lunch yesterday at Kenlake State Park near Aurora, and they play some kind of classic-country subscription service in their dining room. Among the great songs they played were "Sleeping Single in a Double Bed" by Barbara Mandrell, Merle Haggard's "If We Make It Through December" and the Keith Whitley version of "Nobody In His Right Mind Would've Left Her."

  2. I hate cleaning house in the winter--so much static electricity.
