Best of the 70's: After the Gold Rush by Neil Young

After The Gold RushAnother 1970 release this one comes in at number 28 on the Best of the 70's list.  After the hard rocking of his second solo album, Everybody Knows This is Nowhere, he came back with this album a much quieter, folk influenced album.

This album has the classic track "Southern Man," but that track is quite unique as most of the tracks are love songs, like "Only Love Can Break Your Heart."

This is a solid set of songs from Young and a must have album if you are a Young fan.  If you just want to listen to some good early 70's folk rock you can't go wrong with this album.

Following the Rhapsody rating method I give it 2 out of 5 stars for Not Bad.

  1. Until just last week, I didn't realize that Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young's "Woodstock" is a cover of a Joni Mitchell original. I think CSNY's guitar-driven sound nicely offsets her gentle lyric.

Anyway, this was a happy discovery, because it was the first time in a few weeks my older brother and I had exchanged messages in which he wasn't telling me that either President Obama or Coach Calipari is an awful person. It's so much more fun to agree than to disagree.
