Three times in Matthew 4, Jesus slips out of the devil's rhetorical noose, and three times he does so by reciting verses from Deuteronomy that, perhaps, some good Sunday-school teacher back in Nazareth drilled into him as a boy. Deuteronomy must be awesome. I read it years ago but remember it not a lick.
