Album Reviews: Meghan Trainor and Lisa Loeb

 

 Treat Myself: This is Meghan Trainor's fourth album since she premeired back in 2011. I don't know much about Trainor, I only knew her 2014 hit "All About That Bass." It isn't a bad album but it isn't a good album. It's the kind of pop album where you can find a few songs to like and put on a playlist but there isn't any song on here that is going to get you through the year or stick with you. And it feels like just a collection of songs not a conceptual album of any sort. It's a bit long but all the songs are fairly consistent and so you can put it on in the background and you'll find yourself enjoying it OK.

A Simple Trick to Happiness:  Lisa Loeb is my age so I have to root for her.  Truth is though I know about as much about Lisa Loeb as I do about Meghan Trainor, even though Loeb's first album came out 25 years ago.  This is her 10th album, her first in 7 years.  It pretty much sounds like her music did 25 years ago, so if you were a big Lisa Loeb fan back in 1995 this album will probably work for you.  As it is I found it to be OK.  

Isaiah 40: 1-8 (KJV)

At my church, everyone is supposed to read the Bible in 2015, using a schedule whereby we read the Bible in chronological order.  We are now up to Isaiah, which has encouraged me to post one of my favorite of all Bible passages:

Comfort ye,
comfort ye my people,
saith your God.

Speak ye comfortably to Jerusalem,
and cry unto her,
that her warfare is accomplished,
that her iniquity is pardoned:
for she hath received of the LORD's hand double for all her sins.

The voice of him that crieth in the wilderness,
"Prepare ye the way of the LORD,
make straight in the desert a highway for our God.

"Every valley shall be exalted,
and every mountain and hill shall be made low:
and the crooked shall be made straight,
and the rough places plain:
and the glory of the LORD shall be revealed,
and all flesh shall see it together:
for the mouth of the LORD hath spoken it."

The voice said, "Cry."

And he said, "What shall I cry?"

"All flesh is grass,
and all the goodliness thereof is as the flower of the field:
the grass withereth,
the flower fadeth:
