Novak Djokovic defeats Father Time and Flavio Cobolli and advances to the semi-finals with a 6-7, 6-2, 7-5, 6-4 win. So the semi-finals look like this:
MEN'S SEMI-FINALS:

(2) Carlos Alcaraz (ESP) v. (5) Taylor Fritz
LADIES' SEMI-FINALS:

Amanda Anisimova wins the first set 6-4.

ReplyDeleteSabalenka immediately takes command of the third set by breaking Anisimova. Sabalenka is now serving up 1-0.

ReplyDeleteAnisimova holds serve and then breaks Sabalenka again! She has won three games in a row, and now she serves up 3-1.
ReplyDeleteAnisimova holds serve the rest of the way and upsets Sabalenka! 6-4, 4-6, 6-4. She will play in the Wimbledon final, and she gives the American women the chance to win their third grand slam in a row. Already this year, Madison Keys has won the Australian Open and Coco Gauff has won the French Open. American women haven't won the first three Grand Slams of the year since Serena Williams won all three of them by herself in 2015.

ReplyDeleteSwiatek, playing like a five-time major winner who sees a golden chance to win Wimbledon for the first time, dominates Bencic 6-2 in the first set.
ReplyDeleteSwiatek crushes Bencic, 6-2, 6-0, and she advances to the Final to face Amanda Anisimova. Swiatek has lost only one set in the tournament so far.

ReplyDeleteAlcaraz closes out Fritz: 4-6, 7-5, 6-3, 7-6. The American men are eliminated from Wimbledon once again. The last American man to win the title at Wimbledon was Pete Sampras in 2000.

ReplyDeleteBetween 2003 and 2023, there were 83 men's grand slam tournaments. Djokovic won 24 of them. Rafael Nadal won 22 of them. Roger Federer won 20 of them. So over a span of 21 seasons, those three guys won 66 of 83 grand slam events -- 79.5 percent.

But Sinner makes Djokovic look every bit his age today. Sinner rolls in straight sets: 6-3, 6-3, 6-4. And so the Number 1 and Number 2 seeds (Sinner and Alcaraz) will meet for the title. Between them, Sinner and Alcaraz have won the last six Grand Slam tournaments in a row, and that streak will continue on Sunday.
