64 Teams Left

Only four games tonight -- regional semi-finals in the Fifth and Seventh Regions.  In the Seventh Region, the public schools are making their last stand:

Seventh Region Semi-Finals (at Lou. Valley):
(5) Lou. Trinity (24-7) v. (15) Lou. Manual (28-4)
(4) Lou. St. Xavier (30-3) v. Lou. Seneca (16-15)

  1. Trinity rolls over Manual 47 to 35. But in one of the biggest upsets I can ever remember in Regional Play, Seneca stuns St. X 76 to 49. St. X finishes with a record of 30-4, and Seneca (17-15) will play for the Seventh Region title for the first time since 1968.

    1. Wow! Seneca had lost at home by 40 points to St. X on Feb. 20. Then, after winning this regional game, Seneca lost the championship to Trinity by 32 points.

Seneca has a senior guard, Quel’Ron House, who was the Seventh Region player of the year. He scored 31 against St. X in the regional semifinal, but Jason Frakes pointed out that House also scored 31 in the big loss to St. X just a couple of weeks before.

The other big star Friday night was an eighth-grader, Prestyn Wheatley, who made all three of his three-pointers and totaled 25 points. The Seneca coach told Frakes that Wheatley is the best eighth-grader in the state.
