Here are my background playlists for this week:

I think the Oakland Raiders are going to beat the Minnesota Vikings.

  1. The first episode of Charlie's Angels aired on September 22, 1976. Farrah Fawcett starred only in Season One, which means that there are only 22 episodes in which she was one of the main characters.

  2. It feels like she was there for about half the series.

  3. I don't like either of these teams, and I want them both to lose, but this is undeniably a beautiful Super Bowl. I saw an NFL Films thing one time where one of their camerapeople said he felt like it was the last beautiful Super Bowl. He talked about the afternoon and evening light in Pasadena--and then the next season being the first Super Bowl in a dome and everything looked so muddy. He talked about how photographers made corrections based on that game and, even for future outdoor Super Bowls, never exactly got back to the techniques/equipment choices that proved perfect for Super Bowl XI.

  4. The Raiders take the opening kickoff and quickly advance into Minnesota territory on a lengthy pass from Ken Stabler to Dave Casper, who zips by Vikings linebacker Matt Blair and then barrels over a couple of Viking defensive backs to the 35.

Casper was a second-round draft choice out of Notre Dame in 1974, and he totaled nine receptions over his first two seasons. The Raiders' starting tight end those two years was Bob Moore, but Oakland let him go to Tampa Bay in the expansion draft before the 1976 season. That left the job to Casper, who thrived as defenses increasingly elected to double team Fred Biletnikoff and Cliff Branch. Casper in 1976 led the Raiders in receptions, 53, and it's the first of four straight seasons as the Associated Press first-team All-NFL tight end.

Today could be an especially productive day for Casper. Biletnikoff says Minnesota's defensive backs don't like to tackle, and, at 6-feet-4 and 240 pounds, Casper is a lot to tackle particularly with a head of steam once he races by the linebacker who draws the short straw of covering him.

    1. What I remember about this game is that most Super Bowls I could remember had been really boring, that I was hoping for a good game, and that I did not get my wish.

  5. On January 12, 1977, Tennessee came to Lexington and beat Kentucky 71-67 in overtime. Ernie Grunfeld went 9-21 for 22 points, while Bernard King went 8-16 for 16 points, with 19 rebounds. Jack Givens had 23 points and 9 rebounds, but that wasn't enough to save the Cats.

  6. On January 15, 1977, Kentucky went to Auburn and beat the Tigers, 75 to 68. Givens led all scorers with 20 points and 13 rebounds. With that win, the Cats moved to 10-2 on the season, and 3-1 in the SEC. The loss to Tennessee would cause them to fall from Number 2 to Number 6 in the AP poll.
