MLB Playoffs: Day Twelve

The big story last night was that Stephen Strasburg dominated the Cardinals.  He went seven innings, allowed one run, no earned runs, no walks, and 12 strikeouts.  It was an overwhelming performance.  Meanwhile, the Nats finally did some hitting.  Victor Robles, the Nats' center fielder, has been out for the playoffs with an injury.  But he was back and he homered.  Howie Kendrick had three doubles.  The Nats chased John Flaherty after four innings and whacked the ball around the yard most of the evening.  Their 8-1 victory was the easiest win the Nats have ever had in the post-season.  They now lead the series three games to zero and will be looking to close out St. Louis tonight.  If they win, they would capture Washington's first pennant since 1933.

Meanwhile, the big kids are back in action today.  Houston travels to the Bronx for what should be a glorious afternoon contest.  So all the folks who had to miss the ending of Game Two will have a chance to catch Game Three.  This game should be a good one, with Houston sending out Gerrit Cole, who was absolutely dominant against the Rays.

All times Central:

3:08 PM:  Houston at New York (series tied 1-1) (Fox Sports One)
7:05 PM:  St. Louis at Washington (Washington leads 3-0) (TBS)

  1. There's that man again. Jose Altuve, the Joe Morgan of his time, blasts a homer to left center field in the top of the first. Astros lead 1-0.

  2. Josh Reddick homers in the top of the 2d, and the Stros lead 2-0.

  3. Yankees get two on with two out in the bottom of the second. But Cole (who, based on the three games I've seen him pitch in the post-season, is the greatest pitcher who ever lived) strikes out Aaron Judge to end the inning. After 2, Houston leads 2-0.
