Album Review: Rearview Town by Jason Aldean

I was looking back at my review of Aldean's fourth album My Kinda Party and I have some of the same feelings about this album. At 15 songs this album is way too long. The second time I was listening to it I was hoping I was at the end and then realized I still had three songs to go. It felt like I had been listening for hours.  I will say that no song is longer than 3:26 so that's good.

That being said there are few songs on here that are ok and overall it's consistent.  But this is not country music.  This is Southern rock, most especially .38 Special.  As we've discussed on this site before you could do worse than be compared to .38 Special, but the idea that this is thought of as country music is something I find interesting.

Like most of this kind of country I find it to be overproduced.  Also I should note that this album was completed before the shooting in Vegas, so don't go into this expecting some kind of insight into that tragedy.

Following the Rhapsody rating method I give it 2 out of 5 stars for Not Bad.

  1. I regret missing the Marshall Tucker Band's free concert in Madisonville last Friday.
