Album Review: Trinity Lane by Lilly Hiatt

We do not listen to music in a vacuum and so many of my feelings about this album are informed by the last album I reviewed. Both Lilly Hiatt and Kesha are in their early 30's. Both are devoting much of their album to dealing with things that have been going on in their lives, but where Kesha's response in the end was to double down on who she's been since hitting the scene back in 2010, Lilly Hiatt's response was to lay her soul bare in front of us.

In rock and roll it's hard not to embrace artists who lay it all out there and so it's hard for me not to like this album. On top of that this album has one song I really like "Sucker." Just love the sound of that song.

This is not the most upbeat album in the world, but in the right mood it really works. Following the Rhapsody rating method I give it 3 out of 5 stars for Pretty Good.

  1. I like the song in the video here a good bit. This is the first above-2-star review that I think we've seen in a while--good for Lilly Hiatt, whom Wikipedia, which is amazing, tells me is the daughter of John Hiatt, whom you and I saw in 1988 or '89 in Nashville, which is where Lilly Hiatt lives now, per Wikipedia.

  2. I stuck with this song a good bit of the end of 2017, and, in fact, it might've been my favorite song of the year--almost certainly my favorite new song of the year.
