  1. I look forward to this every year. Thanks for posting it.

Of these, my favorites are the songs by Anderson Paak, Pusha T, Solange, Tegan and Sara, Alessia Cara and Brothers Osborne songs, as well as "Kidz 'N' Stuff" by Shura.

One thing that strikes me about this collection is how perfectly the current artists are drawing on the New Wave sound and how quickly it would wear on me in the '80s and send me looking for something different. The Santigold song, for example, is just straight out of 1983, and, just as quickly as it would've in 1983, it makes me want to put on Live At Leeds or whatever that is drastically different. I enjoy hearing some of the original New Wave stuff now, but it's strictly for nostalgia purposes. But I know people our age who genuinely liked that sound then and genuinely like it now, and I think they would think the Santigold song might be the best new song of 2016.
