Album Review: Wildfire by Rachel Platten

Over the past 13 years Rachel Platten has put out three albums. This is her first album that has really charted and all off of the hit single "Fight Song." Allmusic.com sums up her music pretty well when they refer to it as "uplifting pop anthems." It may oversimplify this album and her sound, but it nails it.

The good thing for Platten is that she seems to know how to write for her voice and she knows how to write pretty hooky melodies. All this is good for a pop album. The problem with this particular album is that it feels very cornball. Someone recently said that at 50 they want to hear upbeat music and this album would fit that for sure. My favorite track on the album is the one that sounds different than the others, "Congratulations."  It is still a pop song, still has a good hooky sound, but it avoids sounding like an anthem, at least to the extent of every other song. Following the Rhapsody rating method I give the album 1 out of 5 stars for Just OK.
