Album Review: Sonic Highways by Foo Fighters

Explicit Language

Whenever I listen to a Foo Fighters album I'm always looking for the one or two songs that jump out at me. A song like "Everlong" for instance. That's the kind of song where if you aren't careful you'll loop it about 50 times and still want to hear it some more.

Truth is that standout song doesn't exist on this album, which is fairly heavy in its sound, but what I like about this album is the consistency of the album. From start to finish the songs are solid. I don't find myself just clicking on one song over and over, but I do find myself enjoying listening to the album.

I love the fact that it's only eight tracks, a good length for an album. Following the Rhapsody rating method I give it 2 out of 5 stars for Not Bad.

  1. Standout songs are apparently so, so elusive. I watched something about Prince recently where somebody said that Prince has always had a great sound but that he has had a shortage of great (standout) songs at the beginning and end of his career. I've seen some stuff where Glen Campbell talks about this, too.

    1. Yeah a great song is really tough. Prince hit it pretty big in 1979 with "I Wanna Be Your Lover."

  2. It seems like it used to be pretty common to see big stars' singing other big stars' big songs, but that doesn't seem to go on as much anymore. Maybe it's just that I don't pay attention closely enough, though.
