Album Review: I Want to Grow Up by Colleen Green

This is an interesting album.  If you go back and listen to Green's earlier albums you can definitely hear the upgrade in production, but the style of production is very similar here with her voice often taking a back seat to the music.  It's a simple stripped down sound that is much inspired by early punk like the Ramones, but also I would say artists like Liz Phair.

I find her at her most interesting on songs like "Deeper Than Love" where she is pulling inspiration from post punk bands like The Cure, or on songs like "Some People" where she's the star of the song and not the garage sounding guitars.  All in all I enjoyed the album and she's an interesting lyricist.

Feeling a need for something a bit fresh and youthful, then give this a try. Following the Rhapsody rating method I give it 2 out of 5 stars for Not Bad.

    1. Yeah that's what made me think of writing this review. It has an odd feel to that song that makes me think of this album. This sort of driving beat with these lazy vocals behind it.
