What's On TV Tonight (1969)?

ABC is having its challenges with Wednesday nights 1969. First, it canned gender-bender-ha-ha The Ugliest Girl In Town, and, then, the press clobbered the Dean Jones Laugh-In cash-in.  Now, Turn-On ...

  1. On Saturday, February 15, 1969, UK's fourth-ranked team went down to tiny Florida Gymnasium, known as "Alligator Alley." This was a miserable little gym where Florida was extremely difficult to beat, and 5,558 Gator fans saw Florida upset the Cats 82-81, thus ending UK's 11-game winning streak. Florida got 19 points and 18 rebounds from Neal Walk, the Gators out-rebounded UK 45-34, and UK made only 13- of 21 free throws. It was that kind of game.

  2. On Monday, February 17, 1969, UK went to Athens, Georgia to play the Dawgs. At halftime, UGA led 40-39, but the Big Blue had a great second half and rolled to an 85-77 victory. Dan Issel was held to 18 points, but little used sophomore Bob McCowan went 7-9 from the field and scored 16 points to put UK over the top.

After this win, UK was 12-1 in the SEC and 18-3 overall. But because of the loss to Florida, the Cats fell from 4th to 6th in the AP poll.

  3. Honestly, if I ever sat down to talk with Joe B. Hall, I don't know where I would begin. But I might start with how the recruiting for Coach Rupp actually worked. For example, did Coach Rupp decide where Coach Hall went? Did Coach Hall drive to these places by himself in his own car? Did his wife ever go along? Did he stay overnight, or did he have to drive back to Lexington the same night? What routes did he take? All of that sort of stuff would probably be where I'd start.
