Album Review: Anybody Wanna Buy a Heart by K. Michelle

This is an interesting album. The songs are all written and produced by a core group of people. Which means there is good consistency across the album. The only problem with this is that they aren't the strongest set of songs. So consistency is good, but middle of the road songs not necessarily the best.

K. Michelle has a strong voice and is a good singer, but like so many of her R&B piers she is a stronger pop singer than she is what we think of as soul singer. They do a good job on this album of putting together a collection of songs that work toward her strengths. I find that the strongest songs are songs like "Going Under" rather than songs like "Cry."

But what makes this album interesting is the language of the songs. For the most part these are modern pop R&B songs, but they have very crude use of profanity which makes them feel a bit off kilter somehow. A song like "Hard to Do" is a good example of this oddness. A song that is essentially a sad pop song has this very crude chorus. "Missing you is way hard to do. I'd rather be %^&@#$* you." It's a bit off-putting to say the least and adds a very odd air to the song and album as a whole.

Definitely not an album to throw on while you clean the house if you have kids around. You can find some stuff on here to listen to while you work out, but nothing on here that really stands out.

Following the Rhapsody rating method I give it 2 out of 5 stars for Not Bad.
