Bulgaria Update

Ludogorets Razgrad have their first game in the Champions' League Group Stages today.  They will be visiting Liverpool, which has won the European Cup five times:  1976-77, 1977-78, 1980-81, 1983-84, and 2004-05.  So this is a big-time opponent for the Bulgarian champions.

The Guardian did a feature on Ludogorets.  You can read it here.

  1. This is a huge game for Liverpool as well -- they have not been in the Champions' League for five years. Ludogorets, of course, has never been in it.

  2. Liverpool 0 - 0 Ludogorets (Halftime)

The boys from Bulgaria would happily take a draw here. They are halfway there.

  3. Liverpool 1 - 0 Ludogorets (82d minute)

That will probably be the winner.

  4. Liverpool 2 - 1 Ludogorets (Full Time)

Oh, my goodness. Ludogorets scored in injury time to even the match. But just as the Bulgarian champions were seconds from getting the tie that they so desperately wanted, they were called for a penalty. Steven Gerrard, the Liverpool captain, scored from the penalty spot, and Liverpool scooped all three points. What heartbreak for Ludogorets!
