College Baseball Update

In Jackson, Tenn., Morehead State was eliminated from the OVC Baseball Tournament, losing 7-1 to Jacksonville State.  So Morehead joins Murray State, Eastern Kentucky, and Western Kentucky as Commonwealth teams whose dreams of a national title have ended.

In Wilmington, N.C., top-seeded William & Mary played two games.  In the early afternoon, they lost 3-1 to College of Charleston.  But in the evening, the Tribe pounded UNC Wilmington 12-6.  Today, the Tribe play College of Charleston in a game that starts at 12 noon Central.  If W & M loses that game, it will be eliminated.  If W & M wins, then they will play College of Charleston at 3:30 P.M. Central for the CAA title.

Here were the results in the SEC Tournament in Hoover, Ala., where fans from the Magnolia State had a bad day:

(2) Ole Miss 7 - 8 Arkansas (7) (Ole Miss eliminated)
(1) Florida 5 - 1 Mississippi St. (5) (Mississippi St. eliminated)

These results set up the following semi-finals:

Noon Central:  (3) Louisiana St. v. Arkansas (7)
3:30 Central:  (9) Kentucky v. Florida (1)

The winners of those two games will meet for the title at 3:30 Central tomorrow.
