College Baseball Update

In Jackson, Tenn., home of the OVC Tournament, # 5 seed Morehead was drubbed by # 2 seed Tennessee Tech.  Tech won 14-2.  Morehead has an elimination game today at 3 P.M. Central.

In Mobile, Ala., WKU lost their last-ever game as a member of the Sun Belt Conference, as the Toppers were eliminated 8-6 by La-Monroe.  Western is now off to Conference USA.

In Wilmington, N.C., # 1 seed William & Mary won their first game in the CAA tournament, picking up an 11-4 win over Delaware.  Next up for the Tribe, they play # 2 seed College of Charleston at 11 A.M. Central.

And in Hoover, Ala., the Big Blue had another great day in the SEC tournament, as the Cats won a 12-inning thriller over Mississippi St.  Here were yesterday's results:

(6) Vanderbilt 2 - 7 Ole Miss (2) (Vanderbilt eliminated)
(1) Florida 7 - 2 S. Carolina (4) (S. Carolina eliminated)
(3) Louisiana St. 7 - 2 Arkansas (7)
(9) Kentucky 7 - 6 Mississippi St. (5) (12 innings)

LSU and the Cats have qualified for Saturday's semi-finals.  Today will feature two elimination games:

3 P.M:  Ole Miss v. Arkansas
6:30 P.M.:  Florida v. Mississippi St.

  1. W & M lost to C of C 3-1. The Tribe will play either UNC Wilmington or Delaware in an elimination game later this evening.

  2. The ACC tournament is being held in Greensboro, N.C. In between innings at the Georgia Tech/Clemson game, they are playing R.E.M.'s "Shiny Happy People" over the sound system.

  3. Now they're playing "Little Bitty," by Alan Jackson.

  4. Down the right field line at the ACC Tournament in Greensboro, there's a big grassy hill where people can sit and watch the game. There are about 15 boys down there playing some sort of never-ending athletic contest. Every once in a while a foul ball lands on the hill, and the boys all scramble after it.
