XXII Olympic Winter Games, Sochi 2014 (Day a)

OK, we've apparently got some Olympics happening in Sochi. Qualification 1 in Ladies' Moguls Freestyle Skiing appears to be going on right now, and, at the moment, Eliza Outtrim, a 28-year-old from New Haven, Conn, has Team États-Unis at the top of the leaderboard or scoreboard or standings or whatever the freestylers use.

  1. That said, it can also be a little maddening.

  2. Not only have the Super Bowl videos been taken down, the U.S. Olympic Committee's web site does not list hometowns for the Team USA athletes, and Sochi.ru does not list the states with the hometowns for our Team États-Unis faves.

  3. So, anyway, at the moment I'm unsure which state the top performer in today's now-completed Qualification 1 in Ladies' Moguls Freestyle Skiing--Hannah Kearney--is from. Sochi.ru says she was born in Hanover, and the USOC says she now lives in Connecticut. I'm going to guess, then, that we're talking about Hanover, N.H., though it could be Hanover, Pa., or Hanover Township, N.J., or Hanover County in Virginia--or perhaps even the Hanover village which is part of a town called Sprague, Conn.

Well, we'll get these early bugs worked out in the ongoing implementation of our #Sochi2014 observance. This is not even official Day I of XXII Olympic Winter Games. I'm sure very soon we will be able to precisely and confidently identify the vast majority of hometowns of our U.S. athletes. I can tell you this--we're not going to be repealing the HP's #Sochi2014 coverage because of some initial website problems. It's going to be working better over time, so we're not going to be discouraged.

  4. So once again NBC blocks access to the streaming video unless you have a cable provider. Brilliant.
