MLB Final Standings

Below we have listed the final standings for the 2013 MLB season.  Pittsburgh had a winning season for the first time since 1992.  Kansas City had a winning record for the first time since 2003.  Washington had its second consecutive winning season -- the Nation's Capital had not enjoyed back-to-back winning seasons since a run of four winning seasons from 1930 to 1933.  Oh, and since losing Albert Pujols, the Cardinals have gone 185-139 and made the playoffs twice.  Since getting Pujols, the Angels have gone 167-157 and not made the playoffs at all.  Cardinal fans have to be happy about that.

Other fan bases are not so happy.  The Yankees missed the playoffs for only the second time since 1994.  Together, the Cubs and White Sox had a record of 129-195 -- the most losses ever for the two Chicago teams.  (The previous record was in 1948, when the Cubs and White Sox went 115-191.)  The Marlins lost 100 games for the first time since 1998, and for only the second time in their history.  The Astros lost 111 games -- the most in their history.  Before the 2011 season, Houston had never lost 100 games in a season -- now they've done it three years in a row.  (The Astros went 2-17 against Texas this year.)  The Astros are epically bad -- only the 1915-17 Athletics, the 1962-64 Mets, and the 1963-65 Mets have lost more games over three years than the Astros.  They also lost their last 15 games of the season -- the longest losing skid to end a season since the 1899 Cleveland Spiders.

Teams making the playoffs are in bold.  The Cardinals are the only NL team to return to the playoffs from last year's group of four.  Over in the AL, the Tigers and the Athletics made it back -- they will be meeting in the ALDS.  But the Yankees and the Orioles have been replaced by the Red Sox and the Devil Rays -- which just shows how deep the AL East has been.
