Album Review: SongVersation by India.Arie

It stuns me to realize that India.Arie first hit the scene with her debut album Acoustic Soul just 12 years ago. If I had been asked I would have thought she hit the scene in the late 90's around the same time as Lauryn Hill. This isn't relevant to anything really except that I think of India.Arie as one of the older more mature voices in today's R&B. Maybe this is because her music has always carried itself with a sense of maturity and optimism that we don't usually associate with youth.

Of course India.Arie was 26 when she had her debut so she was already reaching an age where self reflection becomes more a part of who we are. Now 38 India.Arie doesn't disappoint again giving a solid set of songs about love, religion, life, etc. Again there is a maturity and an optimism in her lyrics that is refreshing and quite nice.

The only problem with the album is that there isn't really isn't any one song that will knock your socks off and bring you back for more. The album does have a nice vibe to it though that does bring you back. I had a bad week last week and actually found this album cheering me up and making me feel better about life and that's a good thing and I think something that would make India.Arie happy.

So obviously a good album to throw on when you're having a bad day or just feel like being optimistic.

Following the Rhapsody rating method I give it 2 out of 5 stars for Not Bad.
