British Open, Day 1

I just wanted take advantage of the rare opportunity to post a leaderboard with so many American names:

1.  Z. Johnson:  -5 (18 holes)
T2.  R. Cabrera-Bello (ESP):  -4 (18)
T2.  M. O'Meara:  -4 (13)
T4.  M.A. Jimenez (ESP):  -3 (18)
T4.  D. Johnson:  -3 (18)
T4.  B. Snedeker:  -3 (18)

Dustin Johnson and Brandt Snedeker both rank high on my list of "Guys Who Will Never Win a Major Tournament," but I still like seeing those little U.S. flags.

Rory McIlroy shot an 8-over par 79, and you've got to be wondering about how happy he is with those Nike clubs.

Phil Mickelson shot a 2-under par 69, so he's still playing well.

Tiger, who thought it was a good idea to bring Lindsey Vonn to a practice round earlier this week, hit his opening drive so far to the left that he had to take a provisional drive.  He bogeyed that hole, and is one over through 3.

Further observations in the comments as events warrant.
