NCAA Baseball Tournament, Day Two

There were a few surprises on Day One of the NCAA Baseball Tournament.  They played 32 games without a single rainout.  Virginia Tech was upset by UConn (making them the only number-one seed to lose on Day One).  Indiana was almost beaten by Valparaiso, but trailing 4-1 going into the bottom of the 9th, the Hoosiers scored four runs -- including a walk-off, two-run, homer -- to win 5-4.  The Colonial Athletic Association went 2-1, and the OVC went 1-0, while the SEC went 4-5.

I should also say that ESPN's coverage was excellent, especially in the gap between the Vandy game and the Cal-State Fullerton games last night on ESPNU.  For about an hour, ESPNU was jumping all over the country, taking us from game to game in a manner reminiscent of the days when ESPN used to carry the early rounds of the NCAA Basketball Tournament.

In this round, we are playing 16 double-elimination tournaments, so everyone is still alive.  Today the teams that lost yesterday will play the first game in each region, with yesterday's winners meeting in the nightcap.  So 16 teams will go home today.
