College Baseball Update

The big news on the college baseball front this week was that Number3Son and I attended what will likely be our only college baseball game of the year.  We happened to be in Williamsburg, Virginia on Saturday, so we went to the very nice Plumeri Park to watch the William & Mary Tribe take on the Hofstra Pride.  (For decades, Hofstra's teams were known as the "Flying Dutchmen," which was one of the best nicknames in college sports.  But in 2004, for reasons I don't fully understand, they became the "Pride," which is probably the worst nickname in college sports.  In December 2009, Hofstra announced that it was dropping a football program that went all the way back to 1937.  I'm sure it was just a coincidence.)

The Tribe crushed the Pride 9-1, part of a three-game sweep that saw the Tribe move to 14-7 in the Colonial Athletic Association, only one-and-a-half games between the first-place Seahawks of UNC-Wilmington.

In other news, UNC only played one game, as they were taking exams.  Vandy won two games in South Carolina to run their SEC record to 21-2 -- the best record in SEC history through 23 games.  This weekend, the Dores will travel to Lexington for three games against UK, which fell back out of the top 25 after losing a home series to Arkansas.  As we head into the home stretch of the regular season, here is Baseball America's latest top 25:

1.  N. Carolina:  42-4
2.  Vanderbilt:  41-6
3.  Louisiana St:  43-6
