Which Was the Best NCAA Basketball Champion Since 1985?

Come on.  Who do you think?

  1. I understand this doesn't answer the question, but, to me, 1978 UK--Macy/Claytor/Givens/Robey/Phillips, Lee, Shidler, Williams--just totally established my sense of what a championship basketball team should look like. That's being 10 years old for you. The pro career that Michael Jordan actually had--that's absolutely the pro career that I figured Jack Givens would have.

  2. In many ways, that 1996 team was the ultimate payoff for all of us who suffered through the 1980's with UK. Consider these scores from four gyms where UK has historically had a lot of trouble:

    01/16/96: Louisiana St. 97 - 129 Kentucky
    02/07/96: Vanderbilt 81 - 120 Kentucky
    02/17/96: Tennessee 50 - 90 Kentucky
    02/24/96: Florida 63 - 94 Kentucky

I don't know that we'll ever see scores like that again, but I'm really glad I got to see them once.

  3. Of course, I suppose all the UK fans who went to high school in the 2000's see the 2012 team as the ultimate payoff for what they went through.
