College Baseball Update

With Natstown fast sliding out of playoff contention, and the NBA playoffs little more than a series of exhibition games for LeBron and the Heat, college baseball season is looking more and more interesting.  I was very happy to see that ESPN will be televising every game from all 16 NCAA Regional Tournaments this year.  It's good to see this great sport getting the type of coverage it deserves.

North Carolina split two games with NCSU over the weekend, with the third game being rained out.  I'm surprised that the Wolfpack beat them at all, but UNC remains number one in the country.  Vandy swept three games against Mississippi State to move back to number 2, as LSU fell to 3rd after losing two out of three to South Carolina.  Meanwhile, the Big Blue confounded my expectations, sneaking back into the rankings after taking two of three at Ole Miss.  So Baseball America's Top 25 now looks like this:

1.  N. Carolina:  41-4
2.  Vanderbilt:  39-6
3.  Louisiana St:  39-6
4.  Cal-State Fullerton:  36-7
5.  N. Carolina St:  34-11
6.  Oregon St:  34-8
7.  Virginia:  38-8
8.  Arizona St:  28-12-1
9.  UCLA:  27-13
10.  Florida St:  35-9
11.  Oregon:  33-10
12.  Oklahoma:  33-11
13.  Louisville:  33-10
14.  Arkansas:  29-15
15.  S. Carolina:  33-12
16.  Indiana:  34-8
17.  New Mexico:  27-16
18.  Clemson:  30-14
19.  Rice:  28-14
20.  S. Alabama:  34-12
21.  Florida:  25-20
22.  Mississippi St:  33-13
23.  Kentucky:  26-17
24.  Mississippi:  31-13
