Kentucky H.S. Basketball: Trinity Remains on Top

The big news this week is that Covington Holmes will not be the first school since Brewers in 1948 to finish the season undefeated.  Holmes lost to Newport Central Catholic 88-85 in double overtime.  NCC is now 26-2, and Holmes is 25-1, so the 9th Region Tournament could be quite dramatic.

Meanwhile, Louisville Trinity rolled over Atherton (77-45), Lexington Lafayette (65-51), and Louisville Central (76-55) to stay on top as we head into the last week of the regular season.  But Louisville Ballard stayed right on their heels, with wins over Kentucky Country Day (80-42), Louisville Eastern (87-67), and Louisville Western (80-68).  Trinity is the only team in Kentucky to beat Ballard all season, and that was by only 53-52, last month during the LIT.  So there should be high drama in the 7th Region as well.

And don't sleep on Hoptown.  The Tigers have won 17 games in a row, and they are simply crushing the opposition in western Kentucky.  It should also be noted that Hoptown did lose to Trinity in the King of the Bluegrass back in December -- but only by the score of 68-63.

Here is the latest top 10 from the Associated Press:

1.  Lou. Trinity:  23-4
2.  Bullitt East:  24-4
3.  Lou. Ballard:  21-4
4.  Madison Cent:  20-5
5.  Hopkinsville:  25-4
6.  Cov. Holmes:  25-1
7.  John Hardin:  20-3
8.  Lex. Henry Clay:  20-7
T9.  Lou. Pleasure Ridge Park:  19-6
T9.  Scott Co:  19-6
