Heartbreak for the Pirates

They held the Second District Tournament at Heath last week -- and that will be the last time the Pirates host this event for awhile.  The results were disappointing, as the 18-8 Pirates were upset in the semi-finals by a 10-18 Tilghman side.  The score was a depressing 49-47, and I can just imagine the Heath fans dragging themselves home.

Tilghman then lost to Lone Oak 55-54 in the Second District Championship.  Here were the other title games in the western part of the Commonwealth:

1st District (at Fulton Co):    Carlisle Co. 51, Fulton City 43
3d District (at St. Mary):  Graves Co. 47, St. Mary 42
4th District (at Calloway Co.):  Calloway Co. 54, Marshall Co. 51  (This was a big deal, as it means that Marshall Co. (26-5) and Graves Co. (23-8) -- the two best teams in the First Region -- have to meet in the quarter-final of the regional tournament.)

5th District (at Trigg Co):  Trigg Co. 78, Lyon Co. 61
6th District (at Union Co):  Henderson Co. 71, Webster Co. 63
7th District (at Hopkins Co. Cent):  Madisonville-North Hopkins 52, Caldwell Co. 44
8th District (at Hopkinsville):  Hopkinsville 77, Christian Co. 65  (Hoptown is also hosting the Second Region tournament, where they will be heavy, heavy favorites).
