  1. Lee Westwood ... birdie, birdie, birdie on Nos. 13-15 ... now 7-under, along with Bubba Watson, Matt Kuchar and (here comes) Phil.

  2. BUBBA! 8-under. Birdie at 14, as Oosthuizen goes long distance to save par and hold lead at 9-under.

Even if Westwood birdies 18, don't think -8 is enough. Between Louis, Bubba, Phil and Kuchar it seems. Louis fav.

  3. That's birdie-birdie for Bubba Watson after a bogey on No. 12.

  5. Matt Kuchar eagle at 15 leapfrogs him by second-place Bubba Watson, and he's now tied with Louis Oosthuizen, coming up the fairway behind him, for tournament lead at 9-under.

  6. BUT BUBBA LANDS HIS SECOND SHOT ON PAR-5 NO. 15 ON THE GREEN, and Watson will have a long eagle try at 10-under!

    ReplyDelete
  7. If Louis Oosthuizen makes this pitch over a trap and hill for eagle on No. 15, he ought to call in Tom Watson to run in and retrieve the ball from the hole.

    1. But Oostie gets the birdie, and he's back to 10-under and the tournament lead alone for the moment ...

    1. Birdie on 15 ... tied with Kuchar, who has long par putt on No. 16 for par, at 9-under for second.

Lee Westwood closes with a birdie for 8-under and lead in the clubhouse, where at least he knows he's free of having to play any more golf unless there's a playoff.

Well, Westwood should stick around for a bit. Roughly a 4-5% chance of getting into a playoff.

  10. Watson, one off lead, will be putting for birdie on 16.

  11. So will Oosthuizen, but his try will be at least twice as long.

  13. Bubba and Oosthuizen both hit horrific drives on 17.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Oosthuizen comes up short of the 17th green with his second shot, but Watson goes over a bunch of trees and lands his shot on the 17th green.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Phil's drive on 16 drifts to the back of the green. He will have an extremely long putt for birdie.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Phil strokes his putt on 16, and you can hear the crowd saying "Turn, turn!" But it doesn't, and he goes a few feet past the hole.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Oosthuizen makes a great bunker shot on 17, and he will save par.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Mickelson pars 16. Two behind with two to play. If he had parred the fourth hole, he'd be in the lead.

  19. Hanson misses his birdie putt on 16. He's three behind with two to go, and he will not win the Masters.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Watson, going for his fifth birdie in a row, almost holes his long putt on 17, but it goes in and out.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Oosthuizen makes par on 17. As does Bubba. Great recoveries from two really bad drives.

If you're curious--and you are--Bubba has played the 18th par-par-birdie. Oosthuizen has played it birdie-par-bogey.

  24. For the record, Kuchar lost the tournament because he followed up an eagle on 15 (to get to 9 under) with a bogey on 16.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Bubba crushes an enormous drive down the middle of the 18th fairway. He has a look of determination like you wouldn't believe.

Oosthuizen splits the fairway with his own drive.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Kuchar will par the 18th and finish at 8 under.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Bubba is a true son of the South. Born in Bagdad, Florida; played golf for the University of Georgia. You can't get much more Southern than that.

  31. Oosthuizen hits his approach shot too far and it goes to the back of the green, setting up a difficult two-putt.

  32. Watson's shot is better. He'll have an OK shot for birdie, but he's probably still 25-30 feet away.

  33. The crowd goes wild for Oosthuizen and Bubba as they come up to the 18th green. Watson would be an enormously popular winner, and Oosthuizen (who won the 2010 British Open) would be a very worthy winner.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Oosthuizen has a putt that looks like something from the world's hardest miniature golf course. He has to go down one ridge and up another before he gets to the hole.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Oosthuizen was THIS CLOSE to holing his enormous putt, but it rolls about five feet past.

An unruly roar rolls through the crowd, which realizes Bubba now has a putt to win.

    ReplyDelete
  36. If Bubba makes this point, I think the whole crowd should go: "S!E!C!"

    ReplyDelete
  37. Bubba just misses. He taps in to finish with a 68 for the day, and 278 for the tournament: 10-under par.

  41. They used to always start Masters playoffs on 10, but now they start them on 18. This will be sudden death.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Oosthuizen's drive on 18 comes up just short of the fairway bunkers. He puts his second shot in a great position, only about 12-15 feet from the hole.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Bubba hit a perfect drive. From 131 yards away, he hits a wedge that rolls to within 8-10 feet.

Both of these guys will have great chances for birdie.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Here's Oosthuizen for birdie. I thought it was in all the way -- as did Oosthuizen -- but it just missed.

And now there is another big roar as the crowd realizes Bubba would win this thing.

    ReplyDelete
  45. I actually thought Oosthuizen's close miss was going in.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Bubba lines it up, putts it, and it misses just to the left. Bubba taps in, and we are going to the 10th.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Bubba has missed two straight (hard) putts for the championship.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Bubba steps up to the 10th tee and hooks his drive off to the right.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Oosthuizen's drive looked like it was going into the trees, but it seems to have hit a tree and landed on the edge of the fairway.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Oosthuizen goes first. From 231 yards, he comes up short of the green. The crowd roars with the realization that Bubba still has a chance.

    ReplyDelete
  51. HIT THIS PUTT, BUBBA! HIT THIS PUTT!!!

    ReplyDelete
  52. From deep in the pines, Bubba cannot see the green. But he hits a snap hook that curves around in the air and lands the ball right on the green! He will have a decent putt for birdie.

    The crowd goes wild.

Bubba, like a true Southerner, has never taken a lesson or studied his swing on video.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Oosthuizen's chip goes all the way to the back of the green. He will find it difficult to make par from there.

    ReplyDelete
  54. Oosthuizen does not make par -- he just misses. And now Bubba Watson has two puts to win.

    ReplyDelete

    2. No way. I had no clue. I just liked what I read about the guy. What a great tournament. I was for Oosthuizen, Dufner and Woods, too.

  56. Bubba Watson, the guy who I never thought would win this tournament -- or any big tournament -- proves me to be totally wrong. His birdie putt stops less than a foot away, and he taps IN TO BECOME THE 2012 MASTERS CHAMPION!!!
