Masters -- Day 1 (5:13 P.M.)

American golfers clearly haven't gotten much better since last year. Just as a reminder, here are the major winners since Tiger disappeared in late 2009:

2010 Masters: Phil Mickelson
2010 U.S. Open: Graeme McDowell (NIR)
2010 British Open: Louis Oosthuizen (RSA)
2010 PGA: Martin Kaymer (GER)
2011 Masters: Charles Schwartzel (RSA)
2011 U.S. Open: Rory McIlroy (NIR)
2011 British Open: Darren Clarke (NIR)
2011 PGA: Keegan Bradley

So that's two for the Americans, three for Northern Ireland, and three for the rest of the world.

So far in this tournament, the Americans are being completely outclassed:

T1. L. Oosthuizen (RSA): -4 (18 holes)
T1. L. Westwood (ENG): -4 (13)
T3. P. Lawrie (SCO): -3 (18)
T3. M.A. Jimenez (ESP): -3 (18)
T3. F. Molinari (ITA): -3
T3. J. Dufner: -3 (15)
T3. B. Watson: -3 (12)

Anyway, at least hosting the Masters gives American golf fans the chance to see the best golfers in the world.

  1. McIlroy is not playing well on the back nine. He has bogeyed 11 and 13, and he is now 1 over through 15.

  2. On Tuesday, Andy North said that he would take Tiger, Phil, and Rory against the field. Here's how those guys are doing now:

    T30. T. Woods: Even (18)
    T46. R. McIlroy (NIR): +1 (15)
    T74. P. Mickelson: +4 (14)

  3. Lee Westwood, the best player in the world never to have won a major, finishes with a 5-under par 67 to take the lead.
