Good Bye and Good Luck to the Champs

I don't think I have ever enjoyed a college basketball season more than the last one, and I don't know if I have ever liked a group of players more than the team we just had. Tonight Anthony Davis, Michael Kidd-Gilchrist, Marquis Teague, Terrence Jones, and Doron Lamb announced that they are entering the NBA Draft. Having made our dreams come true, they are now off to pursue dreams of their own. We at the Heath Post wish them all the best. I myself left Kentucky a long time ago hoping to make money, so I'm not going to criticize anyone else who does so.

But if I could speak to those players, I would say this: College is not work, and being a great amateur is not the same as being a great professional. Once you start doing anything for money, everything changes. Getting paid (of course) is nice, but once you get used to that, the differences between being at work and being at school become more and more apparent. Some days at work are great, but other days are brutal in a way nothing at college ever is. And some days, you will feel like you just want to go home and be with people who love you. I hope all of your days at work are wonderful -- but if you ever have a bad day, please remember that you will always be welcome in Kentucky -- or anywhere else where there are UK fans -- and we will always cheer for you. In the words of David Foster Wallace, I wish you way more than luck.
