One and done: Girls' round of 32

Congratulations to the Magoffin County High School Lady Hornets, who beat Paintsville, 49-40, to win the 15th Region basketball title Monday night. They and 15 other regional champions now are amid a presumably happy and busy Tuesday to celebrate and, in most cases, pack for a trip to Bowling Green for the 2012 Houchens Industries/KHSAA Girls Sweet Sixteen® Basketball Tournament.

As you know, we at The Heath Post are, first and foremost, here to help, so here we're helping the 16 #khsgbk champs savor a bit more of their sweet day off from competition by going ahead and planning their bus routes to Western Kentucky University's E.A. Diddle Arena, where the girls' "Dribble Derby" tips off tomorrow at noon Central:

First Region champs--Marshall County Lady Marshals of Benton (but really Draffenville). Forever in the record books, there should be an asterisk next to the name of the 2012 boys' and girls' champions to indicate the impact on the First Region of the Eggner Ferry bridge outage.

Second Region champs--Hopkinsville Lady Tigers. In the school lobby outside the Madisonville-North Hopkinsville gym (and Don Hanson Court) are glass display cases with memorabilia from about a half-dozen great former Maroon and Lady Maroon athletes. Alongside Sonny Collins and Travis Ford and the others is a case for Tonya Wells, the current Hoptown coach who is still considered one of the all-time-best players in Second Region hoops.

Third Region champs--Muhlenberg County Lady Mustangs of Greenville. The drive up in the Rochester part of this route is really a delight.

Fourth Region champs--Glasgow Lady Scotties.

Fifth Region champs--Marion County Lady Knights of Lebanon.

Sixth Region champs--Suda E. Butler Traditional Bearettes of Louisville.

Seventh Region champs--Alfred Victor duPont Manual Lady Crimsons of Louisville.

Eighth Region champs--Walton-Verona Bearcats.

Ninth Region champs--Boone County Lady Rebels of Florence.

10th Region champs--Montgomery County Indians of Mount Sterling.

11th Region champs--Paul Laurence Dunbar Lady Bulldogs of Lexington.

12th Region champs--Lincoln County Lady Patriots of Stanford.

13th Region champs--Clay County Lady Tigers of Manchester.

14th Region champs--Perry County Central Lady Commodores of Hazard.

15th Region champs--Magoffin County Lady Hornets of Salyersville.

16th Region champs--Paul Blazer Kittens of Ashland.
