Weekly Lineup

During this time when you have a bunch of old television shows now available for streaming through services like Hulu, Crackle, YouTube, Netflix, and Amazon my mother has taken the most brilliant step of anyone I know, she has made her own weekly television lineup. Why not the shows are there and by making a lineup she gets to extend the pleasure of having the shows available to her to watch.

Too often I'll get hooked into a show that's available for streaming and burn through the episodes in a matter of days, this will assure having fun stuff to watch for months, even years depending on the show.

Here is the schedule she has for herself.  All of her viewing is through Hulu.

Monday:
Barney Miller
Mary Tyler Moore

Tuesday
Emergency!
Adam 12
Father Knows Best

Wednesday
Bob Newhart
Dragnet

Thursday
Rockford Files

Friday
St. Elsewhere

  1. Yeah, that's part of the appeal of the 1974/75 exercise for me--it strings that stuff out. But I don't know if it really works for me. I'm just one of those people who has a tendency to eat the whole sleeve of Ritz crackers, regardless of how many are left in the sleeve, and, when it comes to TV, I'm seeking to satisfy that base, unimproved self, as opposed to trying to train myself into being a more measured person.

That said, I love your mom's lineup. It'd be a happy evening watching any of these shows and eating cold, leftover chicken rollups at her house.

    1. Yea I love that idea of the line up- but like Eric, I eat the whole roll of Starbursts- rather than just a few- probably why I get along so well with Eric :)
I have been known lately to stay up until 1 am watching some shows I'm a bit embarrassed to admit (ok- Desperate Housewives and yes- Vampire Diaries).

    2. On the other hand, I never picked up the Starbursts jones.

  2. I'm just like you but I admire this idea a lot. It's got me to thinking about how my lineup would look.

  3. In related news, I literally had a dream last night in which I watching a new episode of Arrested Development. It wasn't a dream in which I was living in the TV show's world, in which characters were real people and that sort of thing--I've had dreams like that before. In this one, I was literally watching TV, and the episode that was playing was one I had never seen before. And I don't remember now the plot and stuff, but I do remember that it was very entertaining. It was the first time I've ever had a dream like this, and it's a very excellent development. I'm hoping that I can replicate it.

  4. With other shows, I mean. It'd be great, for example, if I could dream myself some new, original episodes of Andy Griffith or Bob Newhart or Seinfeld or whatever.
