Best of the 90's: Modern Life is Rubbish by Blur

Modern Life Is Rubbish
Do you remember when Oasis splashed onto the American music scene?  Well they were preceded in England by this 1993 release which sits currently at number 91 on the Best of the 90's list.  Blur found great success in England with this release, but were soon outshone by Oasis and the rest of the bands that grew out of the success of this 1993 hit.

This album is heavily influenced by David Bowie and XTC and could be seen as following in the footsteps of those British guitar pop acts.

It's not a bad album but not something I would put on again anytime soon.

Following the Rhapsody rating method I give it 2 out of 5 stars for Not Bad.

  1. I heard somebody, maybe Dave Grohl, along about 1993 explain his theory on pop music was that it was this constant pendulum swing back and forth between the desire to hear/see something big, super-processed and other-wordly (Elton John, Prince, Lady GaGa, etc.) and the desire to hear something small, simple and conceivably created by your next-door neighbors (Carole King, Pearl Jam, Norah Jones ... these guys). I thought that was pretty good.
