NBA Update

In The Princess Bride, there is a great sword fight between two guys who are fighting left-handed. When one guy gets in trouble, he announces that actually, he is not left-handed. And then he switches hands and becomes much more formidable.

That's sort of what the Bulls and the Lakers are trying to do tonight. The Bulls were disappointing in their first two games at home against Atlanta, while the Lakers lost their first two games at home against Dallas. Tonight they are both on the road, trying to show that they are better than they've shown so far. The Bulls did their part, thrashing the the Hawks in Atlanta 99-82 to take a 2-1 lead and regain home court advantage.

Now it's up to the Lakers, who pretty much have to win tonight if they want to survive. With 4:29 left in the third quarter in Dallas, L.A. leads 62-61. Can the Lakers hang on? Can the Mavs finally put the Lakers away?

  4. Dallas 86 -87 Los Angeles (2:40 left in 4th quarter)

This score is misleading. Dirk Nowitzki was just fouled and when we come back from a time out, he will make two FT's and put Dallas in the lead.

Nowitzki and Peja Stojakovic have led a tremendous comeback down the stretch to put LA on the edge of elimination.

  5. Dallas 95 - 91 Los Angeles (17.4 seconds left in 4th quarter)

Dallas has just shot the lights out here in the 4th quarter. They have made five threes in the fourth quarter, and they have gone 6-6 from the line down the stretch. To be honest, I was assuming that the Lakers would win this game and win the series. But the Mavs have outscored them 29-19 in the fourth quarter. They really are the better team.

  6. The Lakers just threw the ball away, so Dallas will be going to the line with a four-point lead and only 16 seconds left.

So Phil Jackson's career may finally be over. This is a real changing of the guard.
