Best of the 80's: Dare! by The Human League

Dare!If like me you grew up in the 80's a child of pop music, you know The Human League for one song, "Don't You Want Me."  What I never understood until listening to this 1981 release now is just how influential the sound of this album has been.

I would say the influence of this album is the main reason it sits at number 71 currently on the Best of the 80's list.  As I've talked about there is a big post punk revival going on currently in the music scene and hearing this album in full I'm stunned at how much stuff I'm hearing produced in 2011 that is obviously influenced by this album.  It's a solid collection of sparse synth pop revolving around one solid hook after another, and except for the dated production sound could easily be a modern album.

If you are like me and you have no idea of the depth of the album that lay behind "Don't You Want Me" I would suggest giving this full album a listen.

Following the Rhapsody rating method I give it 2 out of 5 stars for Not Bad.
