Last Night's Boys' Regional Scores

The final 9 regional games were played last night, and there are now exactly 16 teams left to play for the title:

1st Region (at Murray St):
Marshall Co. 62, Paducah Tilghman 56

2d Region (at Hopkinsville):
Christian Co. 76, Madisonville-N. Hopkins 67

4th Region (at W. Kentucky):
Warren Cent. 68, Bowling Green 64

5th Region (at Green Co.):
Bardstown 62, Elizabethtown 55

7th Region (at Bellarmine):
Lou. Eastern 73, Lou. Jeffersontown 51

The 7th Region was supposed to be extremely difficult, but Eastern won its three regional games by margins of 33 points, 14 points, and 22 points. It has been a long time since any team went into the tournament as heavily favored as Eastern will be.

8th Region (at Henry Co.):
Oldham Co. 70, Spencer Co. 50

12th Region (at Lincoln Co.):
Wayne Co. 51, Southwestern 35

14th Region (at Memorial Gym, Hazard):
Perry Co. Cent. 45, Knott Co. Cent. 39

15th Region (at E. Ky. Expo Center, Pikeville):
Shelby Valley 49, Pikeville 42

The match-ups for the first round in next week's Sweet 16 State Championship at Rupp Arena in Lexington are as follows:

Wednesday, March 16th:
Noon: George Rogers Clark (29-5) v. Oldham Co. (25-7)
1:30 PM: Warren Cent. (26-7) v. Lou. Eastern (31-2)
6:30 PM: Christian Co. (21-9) v. Shelby Valley (13-17)
8:00 PM: Lex. Catholic (26-7) v. Dixie Heights (29-3)

Thursday, March 17th:
Noon: Rowan Co. (27-5) v. Daviess Co. (26-4)
1:30 PM: Wayne Co. (30-4) v. Perry Co. Cent. (25-5)
6:30 PM: Bullitt East (28-5) v. Bardstown (24-4)
8:00 PM: Marshall Co. (27-6) v. Bell Co. (22-7)

  1. One more thing from last night's fun: My sister-in-law was wearing a "Hanson Hunters" T-shirt. (She teaches at what is now just an elementary school in Hanson, the town just north of Madisonville on U.S. 41.) On the back, the T-shirt read, "EST. 1928."
