Hilltoppers!

The up-and-down Toppers were up today. They knocked off Louisiana-Lafayette 81-76 to advance to the semi-finals of the Sun Belt Tournament for the seventh year in a row. Next up for the Toppers is North Texas. Like Western, the Mean Green went only 8-8 in conference play, but they stunned Florida Atlantic (who went 13-3 in conference play) with a 51-point second half and a 78-64 victory. I would not even attempt to predict what will happen next.

  1. WKYU-PBS will be airing both this game tonight and the Lady Toppers' Sun Belt noon semifinal today. I'm so happy for the women's head coach, Mary Taylor-Cowles, and assistant, David Graves. Coach Taylor-Cowles went to Marshall County High and WKU, and Coach Graves went to Allen County-Scottsville and WKU.

  2. 3:38 to go in the Lady Tops' semifinal with Arkansas State, and the College Heights Herald reports that WKU leads by three.

  3. 2:24 to go, and ASU misses two free throws ... Lady Tops still up by three!

  4. 1:55 ... WKU up by five!

    LADY TOPS!

  5. ASU misses front end of one-and-one after what Herald says was a jive call (I'm paraphrasing). Now Lady Tops are headed to line for one-and-one with 1:08 to go. Lady Indians timeout.

  8. Another WKU miss, but then an Arkansas State air ball.

    Sounds like a pretty game.

  11. From my favorite message board, the Hilltopper Haven. Last night, after Western's men advanced to the Sun Belt semi-finals, a poster named "forestertopper" put up the following message:

"Give it a rest doom sayers!

"I for one was excited for the win tonight and the opportunity to live on for another day. Especially for the seniors. However, I was reminded by this site how negative it can be. Instead of being happy we have advanced, you talk about a play in game that we will get crushed by some #1 seed. Whatever happens after the season - happens. Right now get behind the Toppers and give it a rest."

    Go, Lady Tops, tomorrow!
