Best of the 70's: Tapestry by Carole King

TapestryI am stunned that this album only comes in at number 68 on the Best of the 70's list.  It is one of the most successful albums in US history still holding the mark for the longest time at number 1 for a female solo artist at 15 weeks, and has always been praised by critics as a masterpiece.

If you have not heard Tapestry I would recommend giving it a listen.  The only problem the album has is that the first three songs are so strong ("I Feel the Earth Move," "So Far Away," "It's Too Late") that it makes the album feel like it's stumbling a bit in the middle.  But there really isn't a bad note on the album and it set the standard for all singer songwriter albums to follow.

It's a fairly mellow and personal album, so it's a good fit on a rainy day when you are stuck home alone with nothing to do.

Following the Rhapsody rating method I give it 3 out of 5 stars for Pretty Good.

  1. Honestly in continuous heavy rotation in my homes for my more than 10 years now. I don't think I've played anything as frequently as this record over the same period.

  2. Thanks a lot, by the way. Carole King's music completely mellowed my March Madness, and I've got Lady Tops tipping off in 58 minutes and Maroons headed to Hoptown in less than seven hours.

  3. I love the videos you come up with for these songs. That video of "Life During Wartime" was just great, and this one is too. I don't remember seeing her look this young.
