Best of the 70's: Selling England By the Pound by Genesis

Selling England By The PoundI have to confess I have never gotten early Genesis.  I mean I don't get the appeal at all.  I like some of their pop stuff later and I like quite a bit of Peter Gabriel solo stuff, but I don't get this early stuff.

I really don't get how this can be ranked at number 58 on the Best of the 70's list.  This is ahead of works like Family Affair?!  Obviously the people who tend to make lists tend to also be prog rock fans.

There is never any occasion to play this album.

Following the Rhapsody rating method I give it 0 out of 5 stars for Don't Like.

  1. I'm really surprised at how much I do like this stuff.

My oldest brother's first date with his to-be wife was a Jethro Tull show at Roberts Stadium in Evansville. She was appalled when the lead guy--Ian something?--came out and immediately started prancing around the stage with the microphone stand fashioned as a phallus. I think that's such a terrific first-date story. Sorry if I've told it at HP before.
