Album Review: Wounded Rhymes by Lykke Li

Wounded RhymesIf you are thinking of buying the new Adele or Duffy album hold on.  Here comes Lykke Li to the rescue.  Since Amy Winehouse came out with Back to Black in 2006, that's right it's been five years already, people have been looking for another album that takes those 60's influences and does something new and fresh with them.  I think this is it.

Borrowing heavily from the post punk music of the 80s Lykke Li has produced a 60's inspired album that has a dark edge to it.  She does not have the voice of Adele, Winehouse, or Duffy and uses that to her advantage constructing songs that fit very well with what she can do vocally.  I think this is one of the reasons she borrows so heavily from the post punk scene and bands like Young Marble Giants and Siouxsie and the Banshees.

it's a solid ten tracks of music that pulls you into its sound and mood and never lets you go.  This is the best album I've heard this year.

If you're single and you've been out bowling with a bunch of coupled up friends this would be a great listen on your drive home.

Following the Rhapsody rating method I give it 3 out of 5 stars for Pretty Good.
